In 2009 AMBS was appointed by the Ministry of Youth and sport Iraq to provide design review ,site supervision, project and cost management for the prestigious Basra sports city .After having been heavily involved in similar roles for several large healthcare projects in the north of Iraq , AMBS has earned an unrivalled reputation as a the leading quality control body for the Iraqi government. AMBS invited London based BWS to partner with them in a joint venture to carry out the supervision role for the Ministry of Youth and Sport of what is now the largest project under construction in Iraq. The contract of building the city was won by Abdullah Al-Jaburi a major Iraqi construction contractor and two other American companies 360 architecture and Newport Global. The project is expected to be one of the largest sports cities in the East. The Basra sports City had an initial budget of $550 million dollars for phase one which includes the main stadium with capacity of 65,000 people, secondary stadium capacity of 20,000, four top five stars hotels and other related sports facilities.
